A DMV law enforcement officer came to the house and all they really wanted to see was that the new VIN was etched into the frame. Factory Five did this so I didn't have to do anything really. As a note to how long this process took, the DMV confirmed receipt of my application and check on September 21. Next I should get the title and registration in the mail in a few days and be able to go to the DMV to pick up plates. Incidentally, Arlington already sent me a decal bill over a week ago, so they were on top of getting their money...
By the way, for anyone going through this process in Virginia you might like to know that there is a direct phone number for the salvage department, 804-367-1179. Otherwise you will wait on hold on the main DMV line for 30 minutes....
